Hi John. I am interested in the Shoemaker / Stone names.my g-g-grandfather:
"John J. Stone & Eliza Anderson Shoemaker on 2 NOV 1848, in Rockbridge Co, VA."
(note:only the "A" is there. We know her middle name was "Anderson", and my grandmother, HER granddaughter, was named for her.)
I have many of the descendents, but haven't been able to go back any farther, for either of them. I did find this info on the internet, last week:
"Nicholas N. Shoemaker & Eliza Padgett, m. 5 NOV 1849 in Rockbridge Co, VA."
Both couples were married by the same minister -- "Joseph Spriggs, (Meth)"
Due to my mother's health, I am unable to search anything except the internet, and would appreciate any help anyone can give.
As to the "MORRIS" name, I am looking everywhere I can find, for ancestry of William Morris (m. Elizabeth Stapp), b. abt 1722, maybe in Liverpool England. They were the first permanent settlers of the Kanawha Valley in (W)VA, about 25 or so miles from where I am now. Also, their son Henry married Mary Byrd/Bird, who had been captured by Indians; and Henry's daughter (Catherine Morris), married William C. Bird.I descend from all of them.I have read, (via the internet!) that the two Byrd/Bird lines connect, back a few generations.
We have more of the same surnames, but these two are some of my brickwalls
Thank you.
Camay A.
