James married Matilda Rose April 11,1880 in Morgan Co KY. They were married in William Rose's Home, and marriage witnessed by Adam Birchfield and Robert Rose. James and Matilda lived in Breathitt Co, where he was a farm laborer until his son, Samuel was two and a half years old. Samuel told a story that when his parents walked over the mountain from Boones Fork of Breathitt Co. they carried him in a blanket between them, unaware that he was up side down the whole way. James share cropped near Campton, KY for Matilda's fifth cousin, Howard Halsey. Author: O.C. Helton said James Birchfield abandoned his wife and children and moved to Blackie, Ky., where he changed his name to Miller and fathered another family. From what I have found, James never changed his name.
1887 James left his wife and family, and moved to Magoffin Co KY, where he met and married Elizabeth Holland in 1889.

Age for James should be 72, and for Georgiana should be 61.
After James and Georgan were married, He killed cattle and sold the meat in Salyers, KY. He had a little shop in one side of Mr Franklin's Grocery store.
Jim Birchfield owned a store at the Mouth of Rockhouse. He had a good country store, with Groceries,dry goods,hardware, and over the counter medicines.
My mom, Katherine Birchfield Woods only remembers seeing her Grampa James once, and that was when he came to visit them on her 7th birthday. He gave my moms younger brother Jim a a quarter, in which Jim promptly swollowed. Mom remembers he had snow white hair and beard.
Sometime before James died he had Chick Patrick, the undertaker build him a Coffin. It was painted on the outside and beautifully fixed on the inside. He also sent wool away and had it made into material, and had a suit made to be buried in.
His wife Georgan bought his tomb stone.
James is buried in Charlie Roark Cemetery #1888 Burning Fork KY, This cemetery is well kept. This was told by Inez Arnett Marshall, who was a neice of Georgan.

Elizabeth Holland Birchfield, went to Northwest Ohio on the Siato Marsh, near Kenton, OH., with her three children. She was a mid wife, and her son Walker trained horses. My gg grandfather James Monroe Fraley and wife, Laura, and their family had just came to the Marsh about 1917, and my gg grandmother Birchfield came to the Marsh about 1918. Grama Fraley was with child again, and was having a rough time, and Grampa hired Grama Birchfield to take care of her, and the other children. She delivered My g uncle Warnie Feb. 16,1919. James Fraley's daughter Alka Fraley, my grandmother, married Elizabeth's son Walker Birchfield August 08, 1920.
Elizabeth always wore long dresses and a hugh white bonnett that hid her face, and smoked a clay pipe. She died Dec. 01,1936 She is buried at the Parkview Cemetery in Grant Michigan. She always went by last name of Birchfield.

She retired from General Motors - Frigidaire Division in 1974 after 24 years of service. She was a member of the Germantown First Church of God for more than 56 years. She was active in the Women of the Church of God group and also a member of the Farmersville Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Notes for John Birchfield:
Two banks in Sulpher Springs, Arkansas, were robbed by the notorious John Birchfield and his gang, and on the later robbery, L.M. Stout was fatally wounded in an exchange of bullets with the bandits. Birchfield and his gang staged their first Sulpher Springs robbery on Sept. 3 1920, But all five of them were captured within 12 hours and all the banks money was recovered. Birchfield and one of his men were captured at Anderson, MO, and the three others were taken into custody at Joplin. Birchfield was sentenced to the Arkansas penitentiary for the first robbery, but escaped to lead a band of three others in the second robbery on June 11, 1923. The late Storm O Whaley, cashier and a patron were in the bank when the bandits entered. Whaley and the customer were ordered into the vault, while Miss Abercramble, assistant cashier, left the bank building through a back door and gave the alarm. When Birchfield and his gang left the bank, they met L M Stout, the bank president,,and opened fire, shooting Stout in the abdomen. Stout died the next day in a Joplin Hospital. Birchfield and Boyd Jewell were wounded in the exchange of shots, and were captured by a citizens posse. Tyrus Clark and Elva McDonald were trailed into Oklahoma and captured the next day at Claremore, with most of the $1,000 taken from the bank. Clark was sentenced to die and was executed the following Jan. Birchfield was given a life sentence and Jewell was given 40 years. McDonald was also given a life sentence, but the sentence was reduced because he had no previous Criminal and had only drove the car, and did not take part in the shooting. Birchfield and Jewell made numerous attempts to escape from the state prison, and were finally killed by guards on their last attempt.
