Hi Kathleen,
I’m going to print out all my notes on the Binns/Rushworth/Feather lineage and post it off to you (when you send me your address), there’s census details and photo’s and maps etc. in there so the actual file is quite large!
Anyway – I did some lookups in my census indexes last night and this is what I found:
1841 Census for Liversedge
1291/6 9 9 324 Hightown
Holdsworth, Benjamin 20 Cardmaker
Holdsworth, David 50 Cardmaker (Head)
Holdsworth, George Naylor 10
Holdsworth, Hannah 50
Holdsworth, Mary 20
1291/7 11 9 342 Hightown
Holdsworth, Sarah 70 (Head)
1291/7 11 9 342 Hightown
Holdsworth, John 80 Wool Weaver
1291/7 8 12 688
Holdsworth, William 25 Currier
Holdsworth, Lydia 25
1291/7 12 12 735 Hightown SCITE
Holdsworth, Frances 1
(Some of the above names look familiar? But 10-15 years before we want them? Perhaps they are parents etc. and the “U” in Houldsworth was added later?)
1291/5 36 8 267 Marsh House
Goldthorpe, Robert 40 Card Maker Head

Son Edward Goldthorpe U 21 Card Maker Cleckheaton
Daug. Ann Goldthorpe U 24 Cleckheaton

Head Sarah Houldsworth M 44 Dealer in Cards Linthwaite

1871 Census Index for Cleckheaton (I’ve only got the Surnames and Reference Numbers for these, sorry)
Goldthorp, 4434:41,44
Houldsworth, 4432:48
1891 Census Index for Cleckheaton
Goldthorp, 3609:104
Houldsworth, 3608:76,78

From Birstall Parish Registers:
Up to 1724 there is only one Broadbelt entry:
21.10.1691 At Leeds Benjamin Blackburne (of parish of Birstall) and Mary Broadbelt of Armeley, Licence per Mr Law. Benson, at St. Johns.
Perhaps this is how the Broadbelts came to Birstall? If Mary married into a Birstall family it would make sense that she would introduce her female relatives to suitable young men from her new village.

Anyway, that's quite a lot to take in for now
Happy hunting!
Bright Blessings
