Charles Bynum Binkley was born 8 August 1880 in Tennessee, probably Davidson County, to James Stevens Binkley and Mandelia Jane Cagle. He died on 8 March 1968 and is buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cheatham County, Tennessee. He did sign his name as Charles Bynum Binkley on his World War I draft registration card. He married Elizabeth Biggs on 15 Feb. 1900 in Davidson County, Tennessee. Elizabeth was born about 1879 in Tennessee and died on 19 May 1957. I have not discovered who her parents were.

The parents of James Stevens Binkley are not known. As far as I know, no one has been able to find him in any record prior to his marriage to Mandelia Cagle on 19 December 1872 in Cheatham County, Tennessee. Some have suggested that his name was not really Binkley and that he was trying to hide his identity, possibly because he had been a member of the James gang. I know of no proof for this.

Since some of the children of Charles Bynum Binkley may still be living, I am reluctant to list them in this forum. If you or your friend will e-mail me at sarabtarpley@gmail.com, I will be happy to provide my file on this family. I will say that the family included twins Hallie and Allie. I have no record of a Vernon, but there was a Virgil. I show a total of ten children, eight girls and two boys.
