Sara,
The Darrow family is of interest to me, because
my Gist/Guess family held a lifetime lease on
property originally owned by a (Sampson Darrow). This lease was for property that was purchased by George Washington, from the Darrow family to expand the Mt. Vernon Estate, in Fairfax, Va..
This property transfer and lease took place several years prior to the American
Revolution, when George Washington was striving
to enlarge the Mt. Vernon Estate, the land that
the Darrows owned is called Dogue Run and eventually President George Washington built
a farm on the property, that he gave as a
wedding gift to his StepD or StepGD who married his nephew, a son of his Sister Betty Washington
Lewis. (part of the same Lewis family who later moved to the Caldwell,Livingston Co., KY. area)
I have even considered the possibility that a Christopher Darrow B mid 1700s may have been
a son of or closely related to my Fairfax Co.,
Va. Gist/Guess ancestress as I found a notation
that mentioned Christopher Darrows Mother lived on the same tract of property that my elderly,
widowed, Anne Simpson Gist/Guess B abt. 1700 held a lifetime lease on.
I think if you look at the Mason or Fairfax families who were very prominent in the history
of Fairfax Co., Va., you will find some helpful
information about Christopher Darrow/ Darrell/ Dorrell. Please let me know if you think there
may be a connection.
Sandy
1 A note: My Guess family migrated from Fairfax,
Va, then to Orange Co., North Carolina, then
Wilson Co.,Tn then to Caldwell Co., Ky.
2 Jacob Felker, son of Michael and Magdelene
Earhart Felker B abt 1790 and married in Nashville, Tn. to Sarah Walker had a daughter named Lydia "Mary" who married William Gist/Guess. William Guess was B about 1824, Ky.
and was a descendent of the Gist/Guess family
from Fairfax, Va.
Lord Fairfax andGeorge Mason were large land
holders there, somehow Christopher Darrow was
related. I only found 1 or 2 references to
Sampson Darrow, but the records are very old.
I'm sure there is a relationship between
Sampson and Christopher Darrow, because Christopher became at some point acquired the
land Sampson had owned.
