Hello Bill,
Thanks for responding.I offer my condolences for the loss in your family.
I believe both you and Ray a my 2nd cousins. Ray's great grandfather, Melvin Bing was my great uncle.Melvin Bing's brother, William Bing was my grandfather.
Melvin Bing married Lilly Quarveaux.William Bing married Josephine Quarveaux.(Two brothers married two sisters, within a two year time period, so some of the records have gotten muddled).
I would love to have information on any of Melvin Bings's descandants.
William Bing and Josephine Quarveaux Bing had these children, of which I am sure, but not necissarily in this order:)
William
Josephine
Theodore (nickname of Pete)
Byron
Robert
Addison
Cynthia
Cleo (Cleopatra?)
Lillian
Lawrence (nickname Manny)
Eloise who was my Mother.
I believe there were other children born, but I think they died in infancy and whose names are not known by me. My Mother used to say that she was one of 15 children that her Mother & Father had.My Mother was 2nd to last born.
I believe Addison moved to New York and I know for a fact that if it was Addison who moved to New York, his widow still lives in the Bronx but her address has gone astray rom my records.
All of William Bing & Josephine Quarveaux Bing's children have passed on with the last being Josephine Bing Herbert at age 90, in 4/2007.
To my limited knowledge, William Bing & Josephine Quarveaux Bing lived in New Orleans until William passed in approximately 1931 when the family moved to Kiln, Miss. for some period of time. Then Josephine Quarveaux Bing moved herself and her children back to New Orleans and spent the rest of her years in New Orleans and not only did I grew up in New Orleans, but many of my aunts and uncles (children of William Bing and Josephine Quarveaux Bing)did also.
When William Bing was living in N.O., he was a mail carrier (a mail man).He wrote and submitted numerous articles to the N.O. newspaper (the Times-Picayune)and these articles were published. He wrote under the pen name of "Tam O'Shanta".
My mother had several albulms filled with these newspaper articles written by her Father. When my Mother passed, all of the albulms were given to the last surviving child of William & Josephine Bing, their daughter, Josephine Bing Herbert. And as stated, Josephine Bing Herbert passed in 04/07.
Josephine Bing Herbert and her husband, Jules Herbert had 10 children and I have no idea which one of her children (my 1st cousins) may now have these albulms.
Again, thank you for responding and any information you can share will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Kathleen Oliver
