CAPT. THOMAS BINFORD WINSTON, GOOCHLAND CO. VA. - TENNESEE - MISSOURI
Looking for info on my GGF Thomas Binford Winston, b. Feb. 10,1827 son of John S. Winston and Ann Louisa Watkins. Per "Winstons of Hanover Coounty VA." John S. Winston was shot in a duel by Frank Montario (Francisco Monteiro Count de Barros??) about 1828. That is consistent with family oral hisory which says Thomas Binford Winstons' parents died when he was young and he was raised by his maternal grandparents the Thomas B. Watkins.
Thomas Binford Winston served in war with Mexico ca 1846, went to CA with gold rush Dec. 1848 via New Orleans, Chagres and Panama City to San Francsco. He returned from CA about 1850/51 to Shelby County Tennessee where he married Maria Louisa Nelson Nov. 1, 1853. They had five children, all born at Chambersburg, Clark County MO.,
Louisa Watkins Winston, b. April 6, 1864; Sadie Winston, b. Oct. 20 1866 (My Grandmother); Marie (Mamie??)
Winston, b. Aug. 12, 1868; Thomas Charles Winston, b. ? ? 1874; and Emily Winston, b. ? ? died 1878 of diptheria.
Capt. Thomas Binford Winston served in Civil War as Company Commander of Company D; 5th Cav. Battalion; 5th Cav. Regiment; 2nd Division; Patriot Army of Missouri.
Confirmation of or elaboration on any of the above and further info on ancestral line of Capt Thomas Binford Winton would be much appreciated. Have much information on his descendants through Sadie Winston that would be glad to share.
