Thank you for your response. You have made some very good points. I was aware of the Billeter name in London, thank you. As I have performed most of my research at the Balch Library in Leesburg, Va. I have been fortunate to have access to the land records. The names you discuss (English) are a part of the record as you know. As an aside, another family name I am working, Phelps/Philips, is a witness to one of Joseph's transactions. I do not have enough data to suggest where Joseph may have come from. My mom had heard through oral history, that the family may have been from England / Wales. I do not have any hard data to back this up. I look forward hearing from other Billiter researchers on the subject.
