Well, so much for my best guess! It looks like we have two unrelated Billiter/Billeter lines in Ohio/PA by 1900. Both with Henrys. Here are the known Swiss Billeters from the 1900 OH census:
Billiter, John J 52 b. Switz 12/1847, Toledo, Lucas Co.
. Mary (W) 49 b. Switz 7/1850
. John (S) 20 b. Switz 9/1879
. Jacob (S) 15 b. Switz 1/1885
. Henry (S) 9 b. OH 2/1891
Billiter, August 43 b. Switz 8/1856, Glenville, Cuyahoga Co.
. Amelia (W) 44 b. Switz 7/1855
. August (S) 22 b. Switz 11/1877
. Lena (D) 20 b. Switz 12/1879
. Lizzie (D) 16 b. OH 11/1883
Billiter, Agnes 21 b. Switz 10/1878, Toledo, Lucas Co., servant of James E. Pilliod, w/him.
Note in the first family: (S) John b 1879. Also, it's a good bet that Agnes is an older daughter in John J's family group. A curiosity is the rapid Anglicization (sp?) of the names in John J's family, but not August's.
That's all I have for certain about the Swiss line in OH. Please post your findings here if you discover more. You are the first researcher of this line that I know of.
Best, Jim Billiter
