Hi, Jim. Glad you're back. It's actually Billiter Square, with an 'i', rather than an 'e' after 'Bill'. The location is in old London Town, within the 'square mile' of the old Roman city wall. From the map at http://londontown.com/maps/ Billiter Street appears a few hurdred yards NNE of the Tower. It is adjacent to Billiter Square .. from what we found on another 'City' map years ago. And it is just west of the intersection of Leadenhall St and Fenchurch St, joining the two and making a triangle of all three. Ellen, my wife, spotted a street sign for Billiter Street from an omnibus when we very briefly vistied London in the '80's. Yesterday she also found the above URL with the on-line map, and also the following, most interesting, URL. See http://60centuries.copper.org/middle3.html and note that Billiter Street originally was Bellyeter Street. As in bell-founding. From the short thread started by RuthAnn Billiter Francis back in September ('99) here, I think it is more evidence for an independent origin of the Billiter name in England in the 13th century. As opposed to the 'strictly Swiss' origin in Bilten, Canton Glarus, CH in the 14th century, espoused by Julius Billeter Jr, son of the famous Swiss genealogist, in the 1950's. Your thoughts? Best, Jim Billiter - Jim@Billiter.com
