Hello again, Myrtle!

I, too, am still searching for that same missing link. You probably already have all the information that I have, but I will run it by you again just in case...

Charles Billiter was born ca 1813 in Va. and both his parents were born in NC. Marriage bonds for their son, Charles E. and two of their daughters, Victoria and Luvena, indicate that Charles was born in Smyth Co, Va. and Mary was born in Ashe Co., NC.

No Billiters were found in the 1820 Census of Va. In 1830 Tazewell Co. Census, Edward was between 40 and 50 years old. He had married Ann Brown on April 9, 1829 in Tazewell Co.

Charles Billiter and Mary Green were married October 5, 1837 in Tazewell Co, Va. by the same minister who performed the ceremony for Edward and Ann. They (Charles and Mary) evidently left Va. not long after they were married because Charles Billiter is listed in the Carter County, Ky. 1839 Tax List and also in the 1840 Carter Co., Ky. Census. Their oldest son, John Wesley, was born in 1839. John W. later listed on his marriage bond that he was born in Lawrence Co, Ky.

Following is my theory: Because Washington, Smyth and Tazewell Counties, Va. are so physically close and the boundaries changed so many times, I believe Edward migrated from NC to Washington Co., Va. (1810 Census), then to Smythe Co., Va. where Charles was born (1813-15), then on to Tazewell Co., where he married Ann Brown in 1829. Edward and Ann were both between 40-50 years old in 1830, so Charles was likely to have been from a marriage prior to Ann.

There was an Edward Biltor listed in the 1800 Stokes Co, NC census. I believe this was our Edward, or his father.

One more note ... A genealogist in Pike Co. has done some research for me and he believes that Charles' father just might be Caleb Billiter from Washington Co., Va.

My theory may not be accurate, but it sure sounds good to me!! Let me know what you think, and if I have ANY other leads, I will definitely let you know.

I am thrilled that there is a Billiter Forum for us to share data!!!

Cousin Carol
