I have no knowledge regarding the original Francis Billingsley but I would like to comment on the question asked about the book THE BILLINGSLEY FAMILY IN AMERICAN, penned by harry Alexander Davis, published in 1936. This book is misleading and inaccurate. One must only use it as a guide to search for records in certain areas. Example: Francis Billingslea who moved to Wilkes County, Ga pre 1797 married Jane Vardeman, widow of William Vardeman, Jr. [Lunenburg/Bedford/Pittsylvania/Campbell County, VA records] who'd died in Wilkes County, GA in 1796. One can find their union posted in the deed records of Wilkes Co. Ga wherein they agreed that neither's possessions would be shared by the other, but go to their heirs [children by prior marriages]. Francis died shortly after this marriage. According to the Davis book, there is no mention of this Jane Vardeman and HER daughter, Rhoda VARDEMAN McLain, wife of Lewis McLain/McLean is listed as Francis' child by a wife not connected to Francis what-so-ever. See pages 92 & 93. One can access this book via Ancestry.com I trust nothing in the Davis Book. Respectfully, Linda Harris Notify Administrator about this message?
