From Tipton County History Book, pg 378-79: Bound out at the age of 9 when he was brought to Tipton County was not permitted by his master the privilege of attending school, consequently his education was limited. At the age of 19 he rebelled against the tyranny of his master and left his service. By economy and hard labor he managed to secure 40 acres of wild land and married... He traded the land for a piece near Tetersburg. Their union has brought 6 children, 4 of whom are still living.
In Tipton County Marriage Book, 1871-1905, lists Sylvanus Bilby, 70, m. Mrs. Hannah (Smith) Rector, 74; 5 Oct 1899; (m.a. 1900-1903 Set 28). Also lists Sylvanus Bilby, 73, m. Mrs. Hulda Ann (Taylor) Cranfield, 53; 16 Oct 1902; (m.a. 1900-1903 Set 21 #3).
