In Reply to: Asa&Amariah both md. a Winifred Wilson? by Andy Anderson of 2651

The owners of two web sites that show Amariah Biggs as the husband of Winifred Wilson were unable to cite a source for this information. Evidently a researcher assumed they were husband and wife only because the names "Winey" Biggs and Amariah Biggs both appear in the will of her father, Seth Wilson, Sr., of Tranter's Creek, Beaufort Co NC. The will, written in 1820 and probated in 1826, gives no indication that the two were married to each other.

Records of descendants of Asa and Winifred Biggs of Martin and Beaufort Cos NC, Stewart and Haywood Cos TN and Shelby Co TX indicate her maiden name was Wilson. They had a son named Wilson Biggs and a grandson named Seth W. Biggs.

Seth Wilson's will also mentions wife, Ruth, and children Marshall, McGilbra, Mercer, Albert G., Seth, Winey BIGGS (to receive two quarter sections of land lying "on the Missoura"), Susan DANIEL and Elizabeth PERKINS. A daughter not named in the will was apparently Margaret Wilson, born ca 1800, who married first Simon Congleton and secondly Samuel Holliday.
