Earl of Litchfield, father of John Biggs
Posted by: Sidney Biggs Shingleton Date: April 17, 2000 at 19:48:15

Any information on an English Biggs line that relates to the Earl of Litchfield. A Biggs history compiled in 1937 states that John Biggs, a younger son of the Earl of Litchfield, during the reign of Charles I of
England came to America as colonial aid under the governorship of Sir William Berkley. He was accompanied to America by 2 brothers, James and William.
This history begins with the Norman Conquest stating the founder of the family was William Biggs entering England with William the Conqueror, distinguished himself at the Battle of Hastings, and acquired an estate in Essex. A later member of the family took part in the third Crusade- James Biggs- following Richard Coeur de Lion to Palestine.
If anyone has the history or the title of a book that tells this tale contact me at sirkismet@dellnet.com.
Thanks for any information.
