Hello Dann Norton, -- I belive your statement hit the nail on the head. -2- Different David Biggs. YES. I have in my possession, -2- different copies of Names of David & Frances Biggs children from -2- different grand-daughters. Only one name varies. It could be interchanged, read wrong, written wrong. Leroy/Levi, which is correct? One Census shows Leroy and family. Another Census shows Levi and family with different wife! I really haven't worked on solving this problem. I will admitt, I have TORN the David Biggs, b: 1777 to 1780 N.C. APART! Several reasons! First, everyone had my lineage through William. I took it as "Gospel" because that was what was passed down and I didn't KNOW better then. In 2004, I began to Document things out! It didn't ADD-UP! 1850 Census says Hardy is 29, with an older set of kids listed with him! Going to 1860 Census, Hardy is 46! WOW! AGED FAST! 17 in 10! Wife and kids stayed same 10 or 11, but close. Something is WRONG! 1870 Census shows Hardy as 55. To figure this out: 1850-29= 1821 for Birth year; Not Right! 1860-46= 1814 !! Closer to Birth year. 1870-55= 1815 Right ON the dot for age of Hardy, born abt. 1815! So, 1850 - {birth year}1815= 35 years of age in 1850! WRONG AGE WRITTEN DOWN for Hardy in 1850! OLDER KIDS are HIS by a FIRST MARRIAGE, wife unknown and looks like forgotten over time. Hardy had a NEW wife and -2- young children on 1850 Census. Then OLDER children listed. ** WAIT A MINUTE! Andrew Allen is in this group! He is my GGF! HE is a SON of Hardy, NOT WILLIAM! Right in front of Everyone all this time. Someone failed to read the Census {after age put down wrong} and thought the older kids were William's that maybe he farmed them out to Hardy to raise! Here is the mix-up! At NO time have I found any DOCUMENTATION showing Andrew Allen connected to William! No one has produced any. It is all "old so and so has had this for 50 to 100 years, and by xxx, it is Gospel." I don't buy this story any more. Documentation Tells me a Different STORY! Plus, in 2007 I obtained the Death Certificate of Andrew Allen Biggs, my GGF. I had to have it to get him his Civil War Marker. Death Certificate shows: Father: Hardie {can be spelled Hardy or Hardie} Biggs, B: TN. Mother: Unknown, B: TN. This caught my eye real quick! My GF, Hardie wrote and spelled his name as Hardie. I have Documentation for this in his own hand-writing. I don't really care how one spells it, I know which Hardie/Hardy I'm talking about when I spell it Hardie. It also help sort out the Correct Hardy Biggs that married an Elizabeth Smith! Most are showing Eliz. Smith to be wife of Hardy Biggs, b: abt 1815,,, BUT IT IS WRONG! First wife's name unknown, Second wife was Elizabeth TILLEY! Not Smith. Albert, first son of Hardy listed on 1850 Census is Half-Brother to Andrew Allen and older children. Albert's Death Certificate clarifies wife of Hardy, born abt. 1815, Mother: Elizabeth TILLEY. Oh, the Hardy L. Biggs that married Elizabeth Smith, IS the SON of Hardy, b: abt 1815. He is listed in the Older Children group also on 1850 Census. Hardy L., born 1839 married Elizabeth Smith. Not the Old man Hardy, b: 1815! Proven out by Civil War Documentation as well. Pvt. Hardy L. Biggs died at DeVall's Bluff, AR., during the Civil War on Nov. 2, 1863. Buried on Post grounds then. Body was moved to Little Rock, AR. Nat'l. Cemetery sometime after 1867 to 1869 {Gov't. proclamation}. But,,, buried as: H L BRIGGS, a Transcprition Gone WRONG. Paper-work said: See BIGGS. Proved this out this past June 2011. I went to DeVall's Bluff, AR. in April 2011 for their 150th Sesquicentennial Celabration to look for his grave. Did not find. Was told of the Gov't. proclamation. Started looking at Ft. Smith, Helena, and Little Rock. Overlooked the BRIGGS not even thinking about spelling variation. *I had obtain Andrew's Civil War Records, Pension and put them together a few years back. Andrew, David S., Hardy L., Hardy C. Biggs and John A. Rector, Silas F. Rector all served in same Unit. First -3- are BROTHERS, Hardy C. is Cousin, son of William. Rectors' are Andrew's wifes Brothers. It began to fall into place. Hardy L.'s record shows: Hiram Smith filed as GUARDIAN on behalf of Eliz. Smith-Biggs for Hardy L's. Pension {since he died during the Civil War}. Older Hardy NEVER WAS in the Civil War. My Documentation backs all this up. But, I still see where others post Andrew Allen as son of William. I say NO WAY! Same goes for older Hardy as to name of his wives. NO WAY is any named Eliz. Smith. [She is buried in Springfield, MO.] Yes I still see some showing children of David & Frances as children of David and Milley. NO WAY. ** Another turn of events to chew on. In Nov. 2005 I was given a "photo copy" that stated: David Biggs was raised by a step-father. David's real name was MANNING. WHOA! WHAT? The moment I read that statement, I knew I had found the Road-Block as to why we could NOT get passed David to find out who his parents were! I searched -5- Years and no one would talk. In 2010, I submitted my DNA as Biggs. Reply came back: Mr. Biggs you do not connect to any Biggs in our database or any from North Carolina. Is there any other possibility? *** I KNEW the answer before I asked them to run it as Manning. Reply came back: Mr. Biggs, err, Mr. Manning, You ARE Manning Lineal BLOOD. DNA PROVED a 'photo copy' CORRECT. Another deep-dark SECRET came unraveled in my Biggs lineage. Still have some unanswered questions. Looks like DNA will be the only way to Clarify things up. -- I know I didn't help you too much with David Biggs and Milley Deathridge, but this should elimate some problems for you by ruling out the differences. Yes, I've seen it; but could NEVER tie it in just yet. It may just tie in somewhere with this group of Biggs/Mannings. Maybe one day, we can all get on the same page and make it easier for the person who follows us. ASK - Ask and yee shall receive. Seek and yee shall find. Knock and the door will be Opened. {May have to keep knocking, some people sleep pretty hard.} E. Ralph "Manning" Biggs - rabiggs4243@sbcglobal.net
