Isaac F. Biggs' son Charles, b ca 1865 in Indiana

Several WorldConnect submissions appear to be incorrect in showing Charles Wesley Biggs, b Aug 1864 in Indiana, who married Rachel Ann Simkins, as the son of Isaac F. Biggs.

Indications are that this Charles Biggs was not Isaac's son, but the son of James and Martha (Judd) Biggs of Vermilion Co IL 1850, Holt Co MO 1860, and Daviess Co MO 1870. (See message #2344 of this forum.) James' birthplace is variously given as NC and TN. He apparently died by 1880. Martha or "Marsey" (born in Kentucky) is in Breckenridge, Caldwell Co MO, in 1880, and in Jasper Co MO 1900 and 1910. She died in Carthage, Jasper Co, in 1912.

Martha had 12 children, one of whom was Charles W. Biggs, born in Indiana. His age was listed as 5 in June of 1870 and 15 in June of 1880. These ages, if correct, would be consistent with a birth year of 1864.

There are two online transcriptions for Moran Cemetery, Allen Co KS. One shows C. W. Biggs (1864-1910) and Rachel A. Biggs (1867-1921); the other shows Charles Biggs died 2 Sep 1910. Only two counties separate Allen Co KS from Jasper Co MO, where Martha died in 1912. Her obituary named her five surviving children. Her son Charles was not listed as one of them.

Charles W. and Rachel's son Robert, according to one of the WorldConnect submissions, had a son, Noah Benjamin Biggs, born in Breckenridge, Caldwell Co MO, in 1893. Martha was living in Breckenridge in 1880 and her daughter Rhoda was living there in 1912.

ISAAC F. BIGGS' son Charles, b ca 1865 in Indiana, is found in these two censuses:

The Charles B. Biggs below appears quite likely to be Isaac's son. Note that Isaac's son's middle initial on the 1870 census was B, and that his father was listed there as born in Indiana and mother in Virginia.

Delzelle Biggs married John Muller and was living in Seahurst, King Co WA, in 1912. Index to 1930 census shows Charles B. Biggs, b ca 1865, spouse Florence A., listed in King Co WA. This index also shows "Belzelle Muller" in King County.

In January of 1920 LuVan and Dalzelle were in Omaha. He was practicing dentistry and she was in nurse's training.

An article in the Colfax County Press of May 1922 states "Miss Delzell Biggs, a trained nurse and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Biggs of Schuyler, will depart for Cordova, Alaska, by way of Seattle, where she has accepted a hospital position. Miss Biggs will be in the same city with her brother, Dr. M. LuVan Biggs, who has practiced dentistry in Cordova since February, 1920. She expects to arrive at her destination about the 10th of May."

LuVan may be the "Dr. Mack L. Biggs" who registered for the WWI draft in Madison Co NE.

Following article is from the Colfax County Press of August 1921:

L.J. Michaelson, W.W. Wells, O.G. Smersh and C.B. Biggs of Schuyler formed an auto party to go to Leigh and assist the Masonic brethren of that city with initiatory work in the Master's degree.

When approaching the village of Clarkson and coasting leisurely down a hill, the driver, Mr. Michaelson, discovered there was trouble at the bottom of the hill.

A bridge was being repaired and a detour was necessary. On a dark night the warning was insufficient. When the bottom of the hill was reached and Mr. Michaelson saw the predicament facing him —- one car in the ditch and two wagons with racks also close at hand -- his only chance was to ditch his car and cargo as quickly as possible.
This he did, and the impact was so great that C.B. Biggs and Mr. Smersh were thrown from the car, and Mr. Biggs received a broken bone in his left forearm. One wheel on the car was broken. The travelers were compelled to walk on to Clarkson to get transportation home, and Mr. Biggs medical attention. The tourists are righteously indignant over the affair, as but poor warning was given to strangers along the highway.
