Hi, Diane -

Sorry to be so long in replying to your kind offer. I have learned that my gg-grandfather's actual name was William Carter. He was called "Squire Carter" as a sort of title. (I think it is a term of respect indicating that he was a "man of property" or something of that sort.) He was a farmer in England, and we have even been blessed with photos of one of his farms there!
