I asked my Father about Elbert, and this is what he said:

I have no record of Elbert having been in the service. Elbert was the older
brother of John McClure Biggs, who did serve with the 31st Regiment of the Tennessee Volunteers.

I have a letter from Elbert posted in Greenville, Tenn. on Nov. 9, 1860 to a
brother in which some election results were discussed as well as the
secession movement in South Carolina and Georgia. I have copies of other
letters that mention Elbert, but nothing refers to any military service.

That is all that I have.
