In researching Biggs ancestors of my husband's grandmother, Louise Biggs Butler (Minnesota), I find that Louise's parents were HENRY and Ellen Hammond BIGGS who were married in Dubuque IA in 1872. Henry died ca. 1875. The only members of Henry's family that I can find are Henry's parents, ELIJAH and JANE BIGGS. A family memo says this about Elijah: "Elijah Biggs of Indiana married Natalie --, then Jane. Elijah was from an old New England family. Elijah walked twenty miles to cast his first vote for Harrison-Tyler. Elijah settled in Iowa City. Had two daughters and one son, Henry." However: US Censuses for IOWA 1860-70-80-1900 plus Johnson County IA grave records indicate the following data: HENRY BIGGS, shoemaker, b. 12/27/1818 in OH (father b. NJ, mother b. MD) and d. 11/10/1895 in Iowa City, IA. JANE BIGGS (fam.name?) b. July, 1826 in OH (father b. PA, mother b. CT)and d. between 1900-1910, presumably in Iowa City. Except for son Henry listed in 1860 Census, no other children cited. I have not with certainty found ELIJAH, JANE, or parents in IL, IN, or NJ. I would appreciate any additional information on this family. Notify Administrator about this message?
