My family has the following names in it:

van den Akker (my grandmother's maiden name)
de Vries (my aunt by marriage - maiden name)
Bies (my uncle by marriage - aunt's maiden name was van den Akker)
Demmers (my grandfather's name; my mother's maiden name; in Dutch geneological records, this name also appears as "Demmer")
de Roos (my great grandmother's maiden name; her married name was van den Akker)

All of these folks emigrated to Aberdeen SD and/or Sheldon IA (and then to Aberdeen) in the early 1900s. My grandparents emigrated to Aberdeen in 1915 (Anton Demmers and Aaltje (van den Akker) Demmers, and their two oldest children, Anton and Sieger). For years, Clarence (nee Klaas) Bies and Allie (nee Aaltje van den Akker, but not the same "Aaltje" as my grandmother) Bies lived across the alley from us in Aberdeen SD -- they were my mother's first cousins. All emigrated from in or near Heerenveen ("Heearenfaen" in Frisian), Friesland, Netherlands, and the van den Akker branch probably originated in/near Workkum ("Warkum" in Frisian), Friesland, in about the 1300s.

I have a family tree on the van den Akker side, which includes the Bies relatives, which I can share with anyone who is interested. Also, I just attended Simmer 2000 in Friesland, and have email addresses for a number of van den Akker relatives from the Netherlands, including several who are very interested in geneology; would be happy to pass that info on to anyone who is interested.

Also, Jeanne, you and I are probably related?
