Hello,

I would like to add a couple of thoughts to the information on your website, specifically involving the marriages of Henry Biddy (1838-1899), son of Robert Johnson Biddy.

Your records say that he was married to Dinah Coward and Elizabeth Cowart, but I believe that these two names represent the same person. Dianna's full name was Elizabeth Dianna Coward -- Elia is short for Elizabeth and many of the Coward family descendants changed their name to Cowart. The 1850 census record for Stephen Coward lists only one child named Elizabeth, who is the right age to be Dianna.
-- In 1860, Dianna E. was married to John Jackson with one child Eliza A.(1860 census of Polk Co., NC household 125,121) -- while Henry Biddy at age 21 was living with his parents in Polk Co.
-- In 1870, Henry Biddy was living with his four children ages 9 and under, no wife/mother listed, according to his census record on page 252b (household 68,71), next door to his father in Polk Co., NC -- while Diana Jackson was living in her sister's household, Cynthia Blenton (Blanton), next door to David Perkey (Purkey) in/near Morristown in Grainger County, TN, (now Hamblen County -- Hamblen was formed in the summer of 1870, after the census was taken). Dianna was a widower with three children.
-- The 1880 census of Hamblen County, TN shows Henry and Dianna married with Ruth, Catherine, Julia, and Kelley as their children (all children born in Tennessee, not North Carolina) living next door to David Purkey. Dianna's daughter "Johnni J. Biddy" is listed next door to her mother & step-father in the Wm Robertson household, and "Lou Biddy" lived in yet another nearby household.
-- In 1900, Diana and son Kelley are living in her daughter & son-in-law's, Thomas Pinkney and Ruth Brown, household in Polk Co., NC.

Taking all this into consideration, I believe that Wiley C., Nellie, Sophia, and Louisa Biddy's mother was not Dianna, but was someone else whose name I do not yet know. Ruth, Catherine, Julia, and Kelley's mother was Dianna Coward Jackson Biddy.

Thanks!

Carole Thomason
