I have no idea why you bothered to instruct me but the information you provided is fascinating and provocative. You intervened in a discussion regarding the variations in the spelling of the surname Bedinger/Biddinger between me and Sue-Ellen Biddinger. She was adamant that her Biddinger name is spelled only one way and I was just as adamant that her family members could be found among the variants because this has been my experience in 50 years' research. The marvel of your response is that you provided the information that the Buttingen Old World habitation was in Basel Canton, SWITZERLAND. The earliest researchers this side of the pond were of the impression that the Buttingen "castle" was in GERMANY. It's only been since 1980 that our family researchers were aware that the father of our gateway ancestor, Hans Adam Budinger was of Bern Canton, Switzerland. Some even thought that they would locate the Budingers in Germany when lo and behold--we discovered that Ottweiler was in Alsace, Bas-Rhine, FRANCE!!! Thanks for the heads up.
