I am searching for information on Ezra Bickford, born around 1798 in Maine. He later moved to NY and is found in 1840, 1850, 1860 in Westfield, Chautauqua, NY. He and wife Caroline had at least 8 children: Loisa, Perry, Delora, Bird, Celesta, Wade, Maryetta, and Helen/Ellen. The son "Bird" (b. 1838) is not found after 1860, so it may have been a nickname. I searched Civil War records, too, and found no Bird. I believe that "Bird" may have been a nickname for William J. = Billy J. (Blue J. = Bird). He was from Allegany County NY and served in Co D, 148th PA Inf, and married Rosilla Cole (from Chatham, Tioga, PA). William J. BIGford is listed in the Pension index, with guardian Rosetta (looks more like Rosella) Appleby. Billy J. died 15 Sep 1867 and is buried in East Sharon Cemetery, Potter, PA. Rosilla (Cole) Bickford then marries in 1868 William Chapman Appleby/Applebee, who also served in the Civil War (Co B, 23rd NY Inf). Rosilla files for his pension on July 24, 1882, since he died on 9 Sep 1880. She also filed for Billy J's pension on 15 May 1876. Rosilla had two children, Nettie and Norman with Mr. Bickford, and four children, Allen, Lillian Belle, Charlotte, Minerva Viola, with Mr. Appleby. Best Regards, Bob.
