The Thompson name came from John Thompson Bickerstaff's mother, Nancy Thompson, daughter of John Anderson Thompson and Elizabeth Edmonds. William S.Bickerstaff, wife, Nancy Thompson, and their young family, came to Smith County, Texas, in the late 1840's, with the Thompson clan. They settled in and around the Old Etna/Bullard area.
