According to a German Bickel correspondent, in some areas of Germany, the B and P are interchangeable in words. My ancestor, Johann Christophe Bickel was listed on the ship's register in 1732 as Pickel, but on earlier church records in Germany, the name was also spelled Bikel. In this country, the name is also spelled Bickle, and other variations.
