Dora and others,

There was a Martha Bice, 70, living in Lufkin, TX (Angelina Co.) during the 1900 census. She reportedly was born Feb 1830 in AL. Her unmarried granddaughter Dora Bice, age 18 (b. Jul 1881 Arkansas) lived with her. This may be the same Dora Byce shown on LDS Church IGI records born Jul 1881 Independence Co. AR, daughter of Gilbert Birde Byce and Adeline Tracey Bramblett. But if Gilbert was Martha's son, he couldn't have been born in 1837 if she was born in 1830.

The other young woman in the household was married to Ira G. Thomas. Her name was Mattie, 29, (b. Oct 1870) and it appears she also was a granddaughter of Martha. Although LDS IGI records show a Mattie Byce was born to Gilbert & Adeline in 1872 it doesn't appear to be their daughter because Dora's father was born in TN & her mother in AL while Mattie's parents were both born in AR.

Can anyone sort this out? We're primarily interested in Mattie, wife of Ira.
