Recently, while browsing online scans of 1920 Federal Census for Lincoln Parish, I discovered my great great grandfather's brother (Thomas J. Beatty) in the household of Adolphus and Genevia [Mitchell] Bice, Clarence Morgan Bice's parents.

According to my family's records, Thomas J. Beatty, born 27 Aug 1850 LA, died 5 Oct 1925, never married. He was the son of William Martin Beatty, born 1 Jun 1819 SC, died 9 Apr 1889 Lincoln Parish LA; and Elizabeth Caroline Mondy, born 31 Aug 1826 AL, died 3 Jul 1914 Lincoln Parish LA. Neither William nor Elizabeth are known to have other spouses.

From the census scan, it appears that Thomas J. Beatty was helping Adolphus D. Bice on the farm in mid-1920. The scan is somewhat illegible on the relationship; it looks like "S brother to my wife's (?) Grd mother". Sallie Genevia Mitchell's mother was Virginia Alabama Wilson (daughter of Joseph G. Wilson and Penny Rodgers). Her father was Jonathan G. Mitchell.

I have not been able to make the connection. Do you have any information that would shed light on this?
