Hi Jan,
On the census image, there is a circle around this Andrew Rader's Age, Gender and Color. I can only imagine someone checking the enumeration and questioning, as you were.
There was a scattering of blacks with the Rader surname in Greene Co. in 1870:
Henry age 50, Greeneville, farm laborer
Mary E. age 10 in the house of William and Elizabeth Rader, both age 71
Ross age 6, along with 3 siblings, all black in Dyer Co., but if we go one pg back, we end up with the Head of the household named Pinder, and nowhere is the name 'Rader', in this instance!
