I have been out of the loop for a while. We just moved to Arcata, CA. This part of California reminds me of the parts of Maine I once visited. So any ways, as usual, I am thinking about different directions to follow in the Bibber quest since I just read a bunch of Bibber forum posts that I hadn't seen before. Here are two questions that maybe someone might have some info on or at least an opinion.
One is, has anyone come up with an answer for why some of Thomas H. Bibber's children changed there Bibber to Van Bibber? Does anyone have any hard dates for these name changes? I also e-mailed Brian Van Bibber who shares Thomas H. Bibber (19 Dec. 1839) with Sally. I saw that Sally had a cert. of death for Philip T. Bibber who latter was apparently known as Van Bibber. Perhaps while in MA these children of Thomas decided to change their names. Maybe they felt the need to distinguish themselves as perhaps my Van Bibbers decided to do after leaving Eastport?
The second question regards Charles Bibber (9 Jun 1774) (a.k.a. Charles Bibbord). I read some posts by Sally and Melissa (#227). Any way, maybe there could be some phonetic element to the pronunciation of Bibber that might tie Bibber, Bibbord and Vibert together? I am not from Maine but people from ME can have a different accent than us Californians and I am sure 200 years ago that accent was quite strong. I wonder how a native of Jersey pronounces Vibert? Maybe it sounded more like Bibbord than Bibber? Also while I was the briefly in Harpswell, I heard a story that there was some sort of rift between the families and that is why Charles name was spelled Bibbord. He wanted to be different. Has any one seen any records of his that predate his and Catherine's head stones? I also have a five page copy of something called the Bibber Burying Ground - Graveyard Point. I think I copied it in Harpswell Center. It list all the inscriptions on the headstones in that cemetery. In this document it says that Charles had two stone with the same dates. I do not know the date of this document. I only saw one stone of his when I was there.

I am still trying to focus in some way on the Bibber - Van Bibber transformation. By the way, what genealogical programs does everyone use? I need to get away from little scraps of paper.
