I was just browsing through the NEHGS site and found the name VIBBER mentioned in an 1848 Otis family genealogy there.
I thought that was rather ironic.
John Otis b. ? married _____ VIBBER, of East Hartford, CT and they settled at Glastonbury, CT. It just says that they had a 'large' family (no children listed).
John Otis was the 4th child of James OTIS b.1746 who married 1st Sarah HOLMES of Montville. He married 2nd Mary PHELPS of Wethersfield, and m.3rd Belinda CLAPP of So. Hampton, MA.
That's all the info on this particular family.
It says that a John Otis was born in Barnstable, Devonshire, England in 1581 and came to Hingham, MA and drew house lots in the first division of lands in that town in 1635 and is the first ancestor that they have any knowledge of.
Anyway, I just thought this might be yet another route to explore in the ongoing search for the Bibber's / Vibber's.
OH...also, there is a Deborah JACOBS who married into the Otis family and if you'll remember from the Salem Witch Trial days, that Sarah Bibber / Vibber lived with a Jacobs family for a while.
Deborah JACOBS m. Dr. Isaac Otis who was b. 1699 and he married Deborah, daug. of Deacon David JACOBS and Sarah Chushing (she daug. of John Cushing) in 1718. Deacon Jacobs was grandson of Nicholas Jacobs of Hingham, MA who daug. Mary m. 2nd John OTIS.
Dr. Isaac Otis and Deborah settled in Scituate, MA. He died in 1786.
Their son James b. 1734 m. Lucy CUSHING daug. of Ezekiel Cushing of Falmouth, Cape Elizabeth, Maine in 1762. Lucy was b. 1736 and was a granddaughter of Rev. Jeremiah Cushing who grad. from Harvard College in 1676 and was a preacher in Scituate.
Anyway, I just thought all of this ~might~ lead to something new.
