Yes, very interesting reading wasn't it? How bout those awful axe murders Celia wrote about? Ugh !! Since there are many other islands comprising the Isle of Shoals that I thought might be more suitable for living purposes and since there were so many people inhabiting the islands, I was just grasping at straws with the thoughts of the possibilites that James Bibber might have inhabited the area at one time.
There is also a White Island off Harpswell too I've just seen on a map.
Now onto the other stuff.... Jeeeze, the ongoing saga of "who was the first Bibber in America" may never be solved. I have a dear cousin who is a retired History Prof. and she has been most instrumental in pointing things out to me. She also grew up in Harpswell and knows the area Very well. It would appear now that after all the hoopla I created about the Henry Bibber and 100 acres of land in 1712 may well have been a pre-fab story as my cousin quotes the rest of the sentence regarding Henry Bibbers purchase of 100 acres of land at Broad Cove from Benjamin Larrabee, from the Cumberland History book..... "but like other titles of that day, it appears to have had no real value." Meaning this Henry Bibber who ever he was may never have purchased this land at all, And to further worsen the whole picture we still have no Proof that he even lived in Cumberland Co. as she pointed out that local lands were often being bought and sold elsewhere by people displaced in Indian raids. She also pointed out and even though I knew this, I tend to forget it especially when you want so badly to believe we've found something new and exciting about our Bibber relatives. I will say this in general to everyone...Do Not Believe Everything you read in these books. She said that often times these history books were "inflated" to create sales and if they don't pinpoint exact references to back up the information, then their statements are simply of no use.
So, that kind of blew the wind out of my sails a bit at the hope we might have been on to something with this Henry Bibber thing. It appears now that we may not be. I guess unless someone can for sure find evidence in a deed record or a will (which will most likely be housed in York Co. and NOT Cumberland)or something as to the fact that this Henry Bibber ever did exist, then we are back at square one and don't know a thing more than we have forever and ever. Very Very Very Frustrating ! Well, that's it for now.
