St. Louis Bibb

Hi, all! I have to say I found this message board by accident and I'm kind of surprised at what I see. I don't know that I can be of any help and I've never really been too interested in Genealogy (although my interest is piqued!) but one never knows when one can fill in a gap. My parents are both deceased and I'm kind of estranged from the rest of the family so I don't have a lot of information but my name is Randy (Randall) Bibb. My father's full name was Peyton Harris Bibb, although he went by his middle name, Harris (Harry). He was born in 1923 in St. Louis, MO. His brother's name is John Bibb (now of Reno, Nevada) and his sisters names were Betty Lee (Mills) and Barbara Jean (Cooper), both deceased. His father's name was John Bibb. In the 1950's John moved to Troy, MO., and his daughters followed. My father's mothers name was Florence and she passed away in the 1920's or 30's when my father was a small child. My father often talked of an uncle named Mortimer. So I'm quite surprised to find a George Mortimer Bibb and a Rev. Peyton Bibb. There has to be a connection, although I'm not sure what. My father had a tendency to embellish the family story; I was raised to believe we were of Dutch descent. My Uncle John says we are Welsh. I see France mentioned in the message board, so I don't know. My father claimed his grandfather (or perhaps great-grandfather, in either case I don't know the name) was a famous checker champion. He also claimed a relative who was an inventor who invented a steam iron. (I never see any Bibb mentioned when it comes to laundry equipment, so either someone beat the relative to a patent or my father just loved a good story, which is likely.)

These tidbits may be completely useless - or perhaps not. Of course, now I'm curious and may have been bitten by the bug. If anyone wants to contact me for any reason I welcome you! Thanks. Randy
