This was the first Bevis I know of that came to New Jersey.
My 6th. great grandfather is Thomas BEVIS b. 1710 in Goring, West Sussex, England the son of James BEVIS and Elizabeth ISTED of England. He d. Oct 1757 in Chesterfield, Burlington Co., NJ, married first 18 Nov 1737 to Mary DRAPER and second 24 June 1741 in Burlington Co., NJ to Elizabeth BRACKNEY (the daughter of Mathias BRACKNEY & Frances ANDREWS).
Thomas and Elizabeth had the following children:
1. George b. 4 July 1744 in Burlington Co., NJ, d. 4 Nov 1815 in Upper Pennsneck, Salem Co., NJ, married 6 Jan 1771 in Mt. Holly, Burlington Co., NJ to Mary SOOY (these are my 5th. great grandparents)
2. John b. 1745 Burlington Co., NJ, married 3 Oct 1777 in Burlington Co., NJ to Abigail NORCROSS
3. Denman b. 25 Jan 1755 in Burlington Co., NJ, married 21 Feb 1784 in Little Egg Harbor, NJ to Bloomey GARRISH
4. Margaretta b. 24 Jan 1756 in Burlington Co., NJ.
It is said that Thomas came to America approximately 1720 from England as a cabin boy without his parents permission. Thomas’ child by his first wife Mary DRAPER is Issacher, b. 1738 in Burlington Co., NJ.
