Herbert is correct if your Bevis is from Laurens's County, South Carolina, he is most likely from the William Langley Bevis side of the family, however, William had a son named John:
b. October 04, 1820 Laurens's District, South Carolina
d. August 25, 1824

So I dont' think this is your John. I think your john is probably the son of one of William Langley's siblings. See this page:

http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=wsandahl&surname=Bevis
(free registration required).

While it doesn't explicitly state a John married to a Eliza Donelson, proxcimity tells us it is a fairly likely match especially back in the 1820's when people didn't move around very much.

Thanks!
