Check my message earlier this week about the 1787 massacre: http://genforum.genealogy.com/bevins/messages/421.html I found the book with that info using Google Books. The entire source is available. The writer appears to be reporting information related by a then contemporary source. Cornelius was the only survivor of the raid. His married sister was also killed which would indicate that there may well have been other adult sibblings elsewhere. Truman (below) would have been 9 years old at the time. John is described as quite young, there is no indication of Cornelius' age. It may have been that Truman was old enough to leave at home or school but not old enough to be of real help in gathering flax. The basis for the link of my line to this event is documented in a PWA interview of Oregon Pioneers: From Historical Records Survey, Oregon -Benton-Corvallis by Mark Phinney, Oregon Pioneer interview of Freeman D. Bevins, May 24, 1938 "My father's father was born in South Carolina in 1778. He was named Truman Bevens. His father and mother were massacred by Indians and earlier records of the family were lost." P. D. could you share with me what you have that supports the names of Truman Bevens b 1778 parents? Notify Administrator about this message?
