I am a descendent of Freeman Bevins, the line that went over the Oregon Trail to the Willamette Valley. There is a conflict between my Bevins book (a local compilation) and what I found on Ancestry.com in Elizabeth Prather Ellsberry’s “Marriage Records of Madison County, Kentucky Letters - A and B 1790 - 1843 Vol. I.”. The dates (07 Apr 1804) and the bride (Ann/Anna/Annie Moore) are the same. Ellsberry states that the groom was Freeman, my book says it was Truman. I have a transcript of Truman Bevins’ will filed July 7, 1851 that states that his wife had died. He mentions his children: David, Walker E, Malinda Hudson, Minerva Berryman, Mar Ann Cary, Hudson, Martha Ham, Missouri Ann American Reed, and Margartt Atkins. Another transcript of an article in the “Liberty Tribune” (Liberty, MO) in 1870 by David M. Bivens states that he was born in Madison Co. Ky in 1805, that his parents came to Ky from VA in 1803, and that his grandfather was David Moore who served in the army under Washington. In the interview of Freeman D. Bevens (WPA interview of Oregon Pioneers May 24, 1938) he says that he is the son of Judson J. Bevens who had brothers David and Walker. From this I conclude that the interviewer is in error, Judson is Hudson. His father’s father was Truman Bevens whose parents were massacred by Indians (family records lost). His father’s mother was Annie Moore. So .. what could have been the source of Ellsberry’s marriage record? Notify Administrator about this message?
