Beverly Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Jackie, The Beverlys from whom my husband descends were the offspring of John Beverly who died in 1765 in Bertie County, N.C. His son John was apprenticed to a Mr. Husband (I don't have his first name handy). Husband was a Quaker but also a leader in the independence movement in North Carolina. He was deeply involved in the Regulator Movement, and a bounty was placed on his head by the British Governor. This John Beverly lived in Anson County, North Carolina. According to the information I provided earlier, John must have had an elder brother William who was not around when John Beverly (father) died in 1765. All the children were passed out amongst the citizens of Bertie County. You would assume that an elder brother would care for them. Did Henry and William go to Georgia? I think that it is entirely possible. The funny thing is that our family names the eldest boy William but that only started after the Civil War. But our family is also loaded with the names John and William. As best I can determine, the family goes John Beverly (died 1737 will probated), sons Robert and John alive at that time, as well as grandsons William and Henry. John dies in 1765 leaving six or seven indigent children including John Beverly of Anson County. Where did William and Henry and Robert go? I do not know, except that eventually some of John Beverly of Anson County children also went to Georgia. Regards, Karen Beverly
