23.       John Bevan {John ap Evan), removed from Treverigg, or Trevereig, to Pennsylvania in 1683, with his wife and family, and settled in the Welsh Tract, becoming an assemblyman, justice, etc. He returned in 1704 to Treverigg, and d. there in 1726, Will dated March 1724-5, proved at the Landaff Registry, 21 Oct. 1726. He m. Barbara, 1637-1710, daughter of William Aubrey, of Pencoed.

- John Bevan of the Welsh Tract, Pennsylvania -
John Bevan, or John ab Evan {John the son of Evan) was b. 1656, in Wales. He was a trustee for a small co. of settlers, and was one of the early converts to Quakerism, and became an accepted minister among Friends. He was apparently a well educated and belonged to the landed gentry of Wales. He was the son of Evan ap John Evan, of Treverigg, Liantrisant parish, in Glamorganshire, and his, wife Jane, daughter of Richard ap Evan, of Collena, same parish.
He married 1st., at age 19, in 1665, 28 year old, Barbara Awbrey dau. of William Awbrey, of Pencoed. He and his 1st., wife Barbara, and their children, "their tender family," and some other relatives removed to Pennsylvania, coming on the ship "Morning Star", with Hugh Roberts and party bound for the Thomas and Jones land, arrived at Philadelphia, in Nov. 1683.

John Bevan, became a prominent man in the Welsh tract. in Pennsylvania. John Bevan home place in Merion was called "Treveyrig"; after their home in Wales. This homeplace remained in the hands of his descendants until 1810. Barbara (Aubrey) Bevan d. 26th of the 11thmo, 1710 ages 73 years & about 4 months. John lived to be 80 years old, he died at his home place in Wales where he returned to often and married his 2nd., wife there. He had a brother, Charles Bevan {Charles had a son b. 1678 & d. 1745; "Evan Bevan alias Jeuans", who was a minister and elder among Friends).

John, b. 1666 - Jane who m. 1687, John Wood of Darby, Pa.- Evan who m. Eleanor Wood - Ann, b. c1676/7 m. Owen Roberts, son of Hugh Roberts - Elizabeth , b. c1678 - d. 1740, m. Joseph Richardson, of Olethgo, son of, Sir John & Laedy Elizabeth (Aubrey) Richardson.
Only Issue of John and second wife}Barbara.
Evan & Eleanor (Wood) Bevan, whom all of that sir-name in Marion descend:
Evan b. c 1672, resided on his father’s Merion land, and died intestate before his father.
He m. at the Darby Monthly Meeting, on 9 11mo. 1693, Eleanor Wood, who administered on Evan’s estate, 13 Aug. 1720, and had eight children. She was a minister among Friends and d. 28. 11mo 1744 and was buried at the Haverford M. H.

Evan Bevan, Jr. 1697-1746, was the father of Charles who inherited the home farm, he generally resided in Philadelphia.

Charles Bevan’s estate was administered in Jan. 1800, his wife dead and two children minors. One of these, Charles, Jr. m. Mary Lippincott, and d. intestate, in 1809, in Merion, also leaving two children minors, named John L. & Henry C. who inherited the John Bevan property.
Henry Clay Bevan m. Emly Horn and had the following Issue:

James Bevans of Fayette co., Pennsylvania
Vet. of War of 1812} James Bevans m. 1st. Perthena Minor - m. 2nd., May 3, 1818, by John Mitchell at, Petersbourgh, Somerset co. Pennsylvania, Martha Tharp, b. 1798. James was a private with Capt. Wm. McGlaughlin’s Co. Penn. Militia & Capt. Lawrey’s Companys of Maryland Militia. James & Martha Bevans moved to Fayette co., Pa. in c1824. James d. in Fayette co., February 4, 1834 (41). Martha Bevans was still living at Uniontown, Fayette co., Pennsylvania 1879.

Issue of James & Martha Bevans} Six in all } Edward, b. 1822; Bathena, d. before 1834 ; Julian, b. 1826; Sarah, d. after 1834 and before 1854; Isabell, b. 1833; and James, d. before 1834. A dau. of James & Perthena named Mary Ann, lived with them but died in Fayette co. The eldest} Edward Bevans and Julia (Bevans) Sutten, were both living in or near Uniontown, Fayette co., Pa. in 1879.
Based on a 1879 testimony of Samuel Stearns, age 79 & Isaac Hutchinson, age 61, of Fayette co., Pennsylvania.

John Bevans was born in Maryland, and m. near Snow Hill, to Mary Rounds. They had six children, and she died. John m. 2nd., Margaret Jones, and had one child in Maryland. The family moved to Woodford county, Kentucky, and from there to Sangamon co., Illinois, arriving in 1828, and settling at Island Grove, south of Spring Creek. John d. March 1837 and Margaret d. April 1859, Island Grove Twp., Sangamon co., Illinois.

Martha, b. in Maryland, m. in Kentucky, Alexander Montgomery, came to Sangamon co., in 1828. They had six children and the parents died in Berlin. Their only child living in Sangamon co., Martin Montgomery, resides in Springfield.
William, b. in Maryland, m. had two children and died near Chillicothe, Ohio.
Druzilla, b. Maryland, m. at Island Grove, Fielding Jones, had six chidren and resided neas Assumption, Christian co., Illinois.
Barsheba, b. Maryland, m. in Kentucky to Hiram Bailey and d. in Indiana.
*John D., b. October 5, 1813, near Snow Hill, Worcester co., Maryland, came to Sangamon co., Illinois in 1828. m. at Island Grove, Nancy Foutch. They had eight children.

I have no futher data on any of these Bevans.
I am working on John & Sarah Bevans of Fayette co., Pa who came to Highland co., Ohio in 1815. Many of their descendants removed to Elmwood, Peoria co., Illinois in c1836.
