Lucille M. ‘Lucy’ (Montgomery) Betz Obit
ADRIAN — Lucille M. “Lucy” Betz, age 88, went to be with her heavenly Father Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Bixby Medical Center.
She was born April 16, 1919, in St. Clair, Pa., the daughter of Fred L. and Mae (Bennie) Montgomery. She moved to Michigan with her family in the late 1920s.
In 1936, Mr. Harold Hayes and Lucille started the National Re-Employment Service office on Beecher Street in Adrian, which later became the Michigan Employment Security Commission. She left the MESC in 1948.
In 1947, she married Mr. Paul T. Betz, a local attorney and Municipal Judge, who died in December of 1968.
Lucy was employed as a Human Resources Supervisor at ACCO Babcock Inc., in Adrian, from 1969 to 1991.
Her family will be remembered for having the merry-go-round at Lakeview Park, Devils Lake, for 38 years, ending in 1965.
Surviving is one son, John (Rick), and his wife, Debbie, of Williamston, Mich. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents and a sister, Berniece, who died in 1976.
Funeral services for Lucy will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Brundage officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wagley Funeral Home.
