According to your Rootsweb link, Marietta was probably born in the 1820's and married in the 1840's. This eliminates her Elijah J. Bettis from my line, unless she married the Arizona Elijah (a cousin of my gg-grandmother), who would have been about the right age.
Because of the middle initial "J", I suspect that Marietta's Elijah was a descendant of the Elijah Julius Bettis listed by Kerrigan, who moved south from NC in the 1790's. Elijah Julius, in turn, is probably the second Elijah Bettis listed in the 1790 Moore County census, who has disappeared by 1800.
Without pulling out the manuscript, I'm not sure of his relation to the Elijahs in my own line.
