(Note: This James Betts, an adult in 1708, would have birth year around 1685. Obviously this is not James Bettis born 1733, father of Wyatt Bettis). Page 183. Will of Edward James. Will of Samuel Griggs lately of King's Count, NY, Sept. 3, 1744, Craven Co. Witness: W. BETTS. (Note: This is probably WILLIAM BETTS) Page 271. Will of William Norwood, Craven Co., 1747. Witness: W. BETTS. (Note: This is probably WILLIAM BETTS) Note: Also mentioned in this book are: Mary Wilson (wife of John Bettis, son of Francis Bettis), John Wilson her father, Edward Vann who was 3rd husband of Mary Wilson, Overtons, Alstons, Griffins, Averas, Blanchards, Pughes, Hyrnes, Evans, Langs, Odoms. All these familys had members married to Bettes's. Also mentioned many times is William Little, married to Penelope Little. William Little was a Chief Justice of the NC Court and was the great grandfather of Eliza Jane Little, married to William Harrison Bettis, son of Alford Bettis. Note: Nat Bettis in his book says he believes Wyatt Bettis is the son of James Bettis born 1733, who was the son of John Betts Sr., of Pasquotank, NC. He is obviously wrong. The James Betts who was the son of John Bettes Sr., was born around 1685. Nat Bettis states in his book that he knows he is a descendant of James Bettes Sr. of Pasquotank N.C. He bases his disagreement with Adele Kerrigan on the belief that Alford Bettis was a son of Wyatt Bettis who'se father James was born 1733. Obviously Nat is wrong about the date of James Betts birth who was son of John Bettes Sr of Pasquotank, but he states he is still a descendant of John Bettes of Pasquotank. Nat Bettis confirms that Alford Bettis was born in 1798 through his cited age of 52 on the 1850 census in DeSota Co., Mississippi. All records of Alford Bettis state his birth year as 1798 except for postings done by J. Scott who cites his birth year as 1797. No official source is cited by J. Scott for the birth year of 1797 as opposed to 1798 confirmed on the 1850 Mississippi Census. Notify Administrator about this message?
