Marshall Alford's father was Matthew. Matthew's father was John Bettis and Mary Wilson. John Bettis was born about 1733-34 at Edgecombe County NC. John's father and mother were Francis Bettis and Mary Evans. Francis had to have been born around 1700. The first recorded land purchase for him is dated 1730 at Edgecombe. Francis's father was John Bettes of Pasquotank. I guess he had to have been born around 1675????? I've never seen his birth date. I've seen John Bettes wife listed as Mary Dozier or Doser or Dosher. I know on ancestry.com there are about 40 family trees that show Thomas Bettes and Avice Byrd as John Bettes's parents. I would love to know where those people found the records for this. Thomas Bettis and Avice Byrd are of the Betts of Wortham England.
