Bettingers as part of Underground Rail Road

I am part of the Bettinger family that settled in the central region of N.Y State, all descended from Phillip Bettinger reportedly of the Alsace region of Europe. He was a proven American soldier of the Revolutionary war, and was awarded a tract of land in the Town of Manlius as payment for service to this country. No one knows where or when he died, nor where his final resting place is. There are many Bettingers buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango, N.Y. and also some in the Kirkville, N.Y. cemetery.
A recent article in the Syracuse N.Y. paper related a story about Bettingers who lived near Oran, N.Y. helping fugitive slaves along the Underground Rail Road through Central N.Y.
Does anyone have a connection to this branch of the family?
