I knew Tom Hanks had Azorian and Contra Costa, CA blood lines and that he had an Enos line. Does this post mean he has a Bettencourt one too?
I have an Mary Enos as an in-law in my line. Antonio Silveira da Bettencourt and Josephine Rosa Bettencourt Amarante were from Beira, Sao Jorge, Azores. Their daugher, Josephine, was my great-grandmother. Josephine had a sister Francisca or Frances who lived in Contra Costa County, CA where Port Chicago is now. Josephine, Frances and their siblings who came to America went by the name of "Amarant(e)". Frances married Manuel Joseph Duarte from Fayal, Azores Islands, born 1851 died 11 May 1923. Francis and Manuel had a son also named Manual Duarte b. 1884 and died 19 March 1973. Manual married Mary Enos on 5 September 1906. She was the daughter of Antone Enos Freitas from Fayal in the Azores and Mary Azevedo. They had three daughters, Mamie, Amelia and Laura nad two sons, Joe and Charles. Joe took the name Freitas and Charles took Enos. I got this information from "The History of Concord" by Edna May Andrews, 1986. You can contact the Contra Costa Historical Society for more information. Sorry, I don't have the address off hand. The Enos family was very prominate in Contra Costa County and the book has quit a lot about them.
