John. You must first identify where their village on Sao Jorge is. I do extensive research on Sao Jorge and I do not know of the town you refered to. Sao Jorge is shaped like a cigar. There are two "counties" there; Calheta and Velas. I know that a lot of Bettencourts are found in Velas. His birth name was Joao. If you e-mail me privately, I will give you more tips to help you.
