My G-Grandmother was a Betancourt in NorthernMexico early 1800's.Don't know much but read that one of the original settlers of San Antonio,Tx.(the Canary Islanders)was a Betancourt. This may have been the first ones in the USA.For info on early Texas,Louisiana, and Florida history try looking in a set of books called The History of the Cathotic Church in the Americas...or a similar name...can't remember the exact title.Anyway, this widow Betancourt's husband died on the trip over.
