Valerie, I am working on the Bethune 's of Glenngary, Ontario. My g-g-g-grandmother was Christie Bethune, wife of James Dunlop. I believe she was a cousin of the Rev. John Bethune. There were alot of Bethune's in that area in the early 1800's and the all repeated the family given names so it makes for some confusion. I have been in touch with a few others researching also, two descendants of my Christie Bethune and one who descends from Christie's brother Farquhar Bethune. They are supposedly children of John Bethune and grandchildren of John Bethune and Sarah Catherine MacLeod [but I feel she was Christian MacLeod]. Let me know more details on the names you are searching and I will see if I can help. Some of the Bethune's were in the Eastern District of Canada [Ontario as early as 1786/7, they were Angus, Rev. John, and Neil. Rev. John and Angus were definitely United Empire Loyalist who were in America during the Revolutionary War. They supposed the British and when the British lost, their lands and businesses were confiscated. To pay them for their loss and loyalty the British offered them land in Canada; they selected land in the Glengarry area on Ontario. I believe their families may have arrived ca 1801. I look forward to hearing from you, the more people working on this the better chance we have of putting the pieces together. Marilyn
