Hi, Cousin! You and I are third cousins: You are the g-granddaughter of James Pinckney Scales; and I, of his brother Junius Irving Scales. I think you will find the library in Madison elucidating, but be sure to check the times the archives section is open as the hours are not the same as those of the regular library. I live not too far away and have been a couple of times.
I have very little on the names you give. I have that Nancy Stewart Stubblefield (c. 1750-1826) m. William Bethel I (1744- c. Sept. 10, 1804 in Rockingham Co. I have no other dates or places and would appreciate anything you have. Nancy's parents were Robert Stubblefield and Susannah Carter, but I have nothing about them.
Re Nickells, again I have very little: James Nickells was the father of Jeane Nickells (no mother, dates, or places) who m. Samuel Watt (1754-1802). Their daughter was Mary Jane Watt (1778 in Rockingham Co., - 2/27/1873 in Rock. Co. She m. Wm. Bethell II (note difference in spelling), son of Bethel I & Stubblefield. No date/place of marriage. He was b. 1764 in Rockingham Co. and d. before 7/10/1834 in Natchez, MS. I have nine children listed, but as you probably knew, this is where the Bethell-Watt lines tie in.
