I am a decendant of the 'welsh' Bethell's. My family have followed the name back to the the carrier of the royal seal for King Henry VI when he came back from France in 1485. I am lucky as I also live in the Carmarthen area in Wales which was the area which most supported the king. the name Beth- elin was in use by the family when they left Wales to support the King, as the father Owen had been injured in the arm and his elbow was deformed as Beth translates as what and elin as bent or elbow. It was when the sons returned to Wales in 1485 they used the name Bethell. another fact it was a branch of the familt that statred the largest chaple group in Wales the Bethell chaples which are still going strong.
